It is a group of students from the schools in the Corona Norco area. Last nite they had their concert after only practicing 4 times together. It was awesome! I am soooo proud of him! Of course, I forgot my camera so I didn't get any pics.

The last piece the junior high age group played was a tribute to the men and women in military. They did a piece of each military song. As each song was played they asked people in the audience to stand up if they were in the military or in honor of someone they knew. It was great!! Of course, I didn't stand up because I was too busy crying. I still cry as I think of it while I'm writing this. Thank you too all who have been in the military to protect us -- especially Papa (Navy), Uncle Sam (Army) and Darrick (Navy). You guys are great!!

Mother's Day!

This year I woke up to no newspaper, and my van and Chuckie's jeep were sprayed with a fire extinguisher :( Chuckie's jeep had the top and windows off, so they got the inside too. I have volunteered for the past few years, and look forward to helping each year. I usually help pack the bags of food, this year I helped with the gifts. We were short on drivers this year so Vihaney and I delivered to 6 families. Thank God for Vihaney, she speaks spanish and most of the families are spanish speaking only. Chuck, Corey and Amber usually help, but this year it was only Vihaney and myself. Corey came down with the stomach flu Thursday nite, so he stayed home. He was disappointed -- he said he looks forward to Christmas every year because he enjoys doing this. Next year Corey! Both Chuck and Amber had to work today so they missed out also.

Delivering these food baskets really puts things in perspective. You don't appreciate how much you really have until you see those with less. It's definately a good lesson for kids to be able to see how much they have compared to others. I know it's made mine appreciate things more. May God bless all those families we delivered to and to all the people who helped make the program run smoothly.

Finally! My cousin Albert! It was a surprise to hear from him after about 35 years. For those of you who don't know him, he grew up with me from the time he was about 5 years old until he was 14 or 15. He is my mom's nephew. I didn't realize how much I missed him until his phone call yesterday. I was pretty excited. He seems to be doing well and lives in Pennsylvania. She called and thought the key had been deprogramed because her lights, radio and windows were working, but the car wouldn't start. I had to wait for Chuckie to get home before we could get out there. Luckily we took battery cables, it turned out she had juice in the battery, but not enough. She had been sitting in the car with her lights and radio on -- it sucked up just enough juice so the car wouldn't start.

Amber had class, so she wasn't waiting out in the dark. Marathon has been moved to Memorial weekend. I haven't been running since the Surfside 1/2 which has been about 6-7 months. I didn't start training for the marathon this year, but now I'm thinking I have enough time to train. I know a couple of people who are running it, so I won't have to start by myself. We'll see -- maybe this time I can do it. I've come to the conclusion that running a full marathon intimidates me! My goal will be to overcome this. I'm not sure how long that will take. Anyway, I'm going to watch what's going on with L.A. They don't have much info on their website, it may change again -- who knows!

By the way, my roof is done and my owl is hanging up there to scare the birds! I'm going to try to write at least every couple of days.

First of all, we are getting our roof fixed. Corey noticed the paint on the inside of our house looked like the paint was melting. There are no water spots, it just looks like the paint is sagging. We had a roofer come out and he estimated $400 to get it fixed. After they started to take up the tile they realized the paper was rotted from the top of the house to the eave. There is wood rot at the top where the pigeons have nested. The roofer said because the pigeons are living up there, their poop has rotted the paper (because it runs down under the tile and ruins the paper) and at the very top where they live it's down to the wood. Well now our price to get the roof repaied is $1500. We bought an owl and the roofer is going to install it when he's done. Our roofer seems to be pretty good, if anyone here in Cali needs one let me know I'll give you his name. It's a small business, but BBB rates him AAA and he is actually on the job! He doesn't send out a crew and then you never see him again. It's taking two days to get the job done, by the end of the day I'll be drier and $1500 lighter.

Family Reunion in Tennessee

Last Thursday the 4 of us flew to Tennessee to meet Chuck and go to his family reunion. This is the first time we have met his side of the family. We only knew his sister and two of his cousins. It was a great experience. We met Chuck's uncles and aunts and about a million cousins. (Well it seemed like a million!) Here are some pics of our trip. We arrived in Tennessee around 11 pm.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_WN6ozJz4G-A/SK3M6e-FMtI/AAAAAAAAAD0/cUKmwFBzsJU/s200/P1010342.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5237067246819685074" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WN6ozJz4G-A/SK3M6wxejkI/AAAAAAAAAD8/X2jUrXS0pPc/s200/P1010349.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5237067251598659138" />

This was our view from the airplane on our way to Tennessee.
Chuck took this pics pretty good job Chuck!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_WN6ozJz4G-A/SK3M73wjQjI/AAAAAAAAAEM/GiSGvLZWlAM/s200/P1010398.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5237067270653690418" />

On Friday we went to the Country Music Hall of Fame and then over to Cousin Debbie's house we met alot of the immediate family there.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_WN6ozJz4G-A/SK3M8OtTIqI/AAAAAAAAAEU/ZCZRELbdV-U/s200/P1010477.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5237067276814066338" />

This is Chuck and his family.

On Saturday we went to the reunion and met more of his family. It was beautiful.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WN6ozJz4G-A/SK3T5MA9g5I/AAAAAAAAAEs/NmNDBH8zpDQ/s200/P1010710.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5237074921133015954" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_WN6ozJz4G-A/SK3T5dHB10I/AAAAAAAAAE0/wfwtljPf8Cs/s200/P1010712.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5237074925721868098" />

After our walk we drove all over Nashville to look for a Dairy Queen. Our GPS took us to two different locations and they were both wrong. We finally ended up at McDonalds. The best thing about being lost is I was able to see the Parthenon. It was awesom, even though I only got to see if from far away. I'll go there next trip.

On Tuesday, Chuck dropped us off at the airport (10:30am), but our flight didn't leave until 2:50pm. We spent our whole day in airports and airplanes. We arrived Cali at 7:40pm. Boy is it good to be back!

More camping at the beach

Here's a couple more pictures of our camping trip. It's almost gone, the pics when it first happened are on my phone and I can't get them on my blog.

Corey and I were working out in the front yard last week and we both had brooms in our hands. Corey was barefoot and I saw a spider going towards his foot. I yelled "watch out there's a spider"! I tried to block it with my broom and Corey jumped and swung his broom. (Ouch!) He hit me across the bridge of my nose, cut the crease of my eyelid and my contact lens ended up on my cheek. Next time I'll be more calm and get out of the way. By the way, the spider was only the size of a dime (maybe).

Catching Up

I'm going to try and catch up a bit about our lives.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_WN6ozJz4G-A/SJHw3ZkK1BI/AAAAAAAAACE/Zw3tLfwSvKE/s320/P1010294.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5229225476899918866" />

Last night I called the city to tell them water was coming up out of the blacktop on the street. When they came out to look at it I asked if this could be earthquake related, and they said it was possible. (I guess I'd better get my earthquake kit ready) This is what they are doing today.

Also, yesterday Corey and I were walking along McKinley St. when a small rock flew past my feet. I thought Corey was kicking rocks, then we saw another fly by and hit a car. We stood there deciding whether or not we should call the police and then this kid's head popped up over the fence. He was probably 9 yrs old. I told him he hit a car and I was going to call the police if he didn't stop. He stopped, but I called the police anyway. I didn't want him to keep doing it and someone get in an accident. I was pretty excited! I was a little scared to go on the airplane though. (Actually I was alot scared!!) When Chuckie dropped me off I almost cried. I couldn't even look at him to say bye. I wanted to run back to the van and go home.

What was I afraid of, you ask? I haven't flown on an airplane since Amber was 2 weeks old--23 1/2 yrs ago. I was afraid I wouldn't know what to do going through security. I was afraid I wouldn't know how to get to my plane connections, and I was afraid, of course, that something might happen on the plane. The last fear I left to God -- there isn't anything I can do about the plane once I boarded. I prayed alot on my outbound flights, but on the way back I was okay. I only prayed occassionally, not the whole time. God is great! He took care of me all the way!

Thanks to Tina for her guidance on how to pass security with flying colors! I didn't have a problem. Everything went through and they didn't have to take anything away from me. Thanks again to Tina for guiding me through my flight connections. I made it from flight to flight with no problems. (Well except for what I would consider a close call, but more of that later.)

My flights to Tennessee were great! My connection went through Dallas, Tx and then on to Nashville, Tn. I must say the view from an airplane is beautiful! You can see God in all His glory everywhere you look.

This is the Tennessee River from Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga Tn.

A view of the Cumberland River as we're walking over the bridge to downtown Nashville.

This is the road between Nashville and Chattanooga.

On Saturday we visited downtown Nashville, the Hermitage Homestead (the home of President Andrew Jackson), Ruby Falls and Lookout Mountain. Ruby Falls and Lookout Mountain are in Chattanooga which is a couple of hours away. The Hermitage Homestead was very interesting -- they said about 90% of the items in the house are the actual items used by President Jackson. Unbelievable! Here's a couple of pics, I'll post the rest online.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_WN6ozJz4G-A/SFLFF8yElYI/AAAAAAAAABU/f9adxaK-JPs/s320/P1000915.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5211444424827245954" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_WN6ozJz4G-A/SFLFGyR2ZhI/AAAAAAAAABk/TL_FDVwio4I/s320/P1000910.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5211444439187613202" />

Sunday we spent at his cousin's house. We haven't met his side of the family, so this was a thrill for us. They were great! We'll be going back in August for a family reunion. Our whole family will attend. The kids are pretty excited.

I flew back on Monday, this time much like the expert. I wasn't afraid, and knew exactly what I was supposed to do. But, like everything, you need to be ready for the unexpected. I left out of Nashville about 20 minutes late. I only had a 1 hour layover in Chicago, but I figured I'd still be okay. By the time my plane landed there was 7 minutes until they started boading my plane. Of course my connection was on the other side of the airport. I did all but run through the airport. I tried real hard not to push people out of my way and breakout into a run:o I arrived at my checkin as they were loading the last of the passengers. Whew! At least my next stop was home. It was a great trip! Thought for the day -- I really need to step out of my comfort box more often!

Jim's 75th Birthday Party!

Bonnie and I went to Jimmy's birthday party a couple of weeks ago. Let me tell you it was tough in the beginning. Corey and I got there and it was raining, windy and cold. I almost went home. Corey convinced me to stay :) We were bused to the start and then I took Corey to the hotel across the street and arranged for him to stay there and have breakfast while I ran. They were extremely nice and accommodating. Huntington Beach Hilton you're the BEST! Amber and Mauricio came by to stay with Corey for awhile, but they had to leave just as I was finishing. Sorry I missed you guys, thanks for coming!

This is what I was wearing: 2 shirts, a plastic poncho, shorts and a visor. The wind and the rain made it hard sometimes, especially when it was right in my face.

I ran almost the whole way. I stopped 4 times: 1st time to GU -- 3 1/2 miles. 2nd time to GU -- 7 1/2 miles. 3rd time I fell and had to stop by the first aid tent -- I got a couple of spots on my hand with gravel embedded in it. My knee was scraped a little, but my knee brace kept it from getting worse. (I didn't realize my knee was scraped until we were back at the van.) And my last stop was about mile 10 to call Corey and let him know I probably had another 1/2 hour and I would be done.

My chip time was 2:18:58. Pace 10:26. That was a better time than Disneyland.

I got my medal -- was it worth it? YES!! I finished, I didn't quit because the weather was bad.

By the way, I think the spin classes made a big difference in my stamina. I didn't start to crash until mile 12.5. I'm going to stick with the spin classes!

To Run or Not To Run?

This Sunday is my 1/2 marathon. If I could be warm until we start...but for the 1-1 1/2 hours I have to wait out in the cold before my run, that doesn't sound to appealing. We'll see. I figured I'd better put in some mileage, so today I did 9 1/2 miles. I haven't done a long run in quite awhile. It wasn't too bad. I feel tired, but I'm not sore. I should be able to make it okay. I'm really starting to like my spin classes, so it's hard to decide whether to run or spin. Now I look forward to them, but I still have a sense of dread when I go to the class. It's a great way to burn off calories and it seems like my legs are getting stronger. I ran yesterday, 5 miles in the wind, I walked more than normal because the wind made me feel like I wasn't getting anywhere. I still managed to come in under my 11 minute mile. My legs are sore today though.

Two more weeks for my 1/2 marathon -- not sure if I'm going to be ready for it.

We spent most of the weekend in the hospital, papa went in Friday night because he said he has been blacking out. The tests didn't show anything, and when the doctor came to talk to him has said he didn't blackout, he just lost his balance. So, papa is home now with conditions -- he's not supposed to drive and he's supposed to use a walker. He already wasn't listening when Bonnie and Sammy got him home. Say some prayers for him so he doesn't hurt himself (or someone else).

Update

It's been awhile since I've written. Let me quickly go over some things we've done. We had Christmas Eve at my house -- I sent everyone pictures through Ofoto.com. Jeff, I don't have your email address, send it to me so I can put you on the list. Christmas was quiet with me, Chuck, Amber, Chuckie, Corey and Vihanney. I slept most of the day. Christmas was real nice this year -- I enjoy having the family around. We missed those of you that couldn't make it -- Hope you had a great Christmas. :)

Now for my running -- I haven't done much. I have a 1/2 marathon in February and I can only run about 4 miles right now. I am going to have to really start training to get my mileage up. Needless to say, I won't be doing the marathon. I don't have enought time to get in shape.

I have been to about 4 spin classes. Last night was the latest. It's still real hard, but I'm doing better. I still dread the class. I can't wait until I get past that feeling. I know it's a good workout so I'm going to keep trying.

My New Year's resolutions this year:

1. To work out in some way every day

2. To devote time morning and night to reading the Bible

Spinning Class

Last night I ran 3 miles and then Amber and I took a spinning class at the gym. All I have to say is "Sammy I applaud you"! That was one of the hardest things I've done in a long time. I thought I was going to die. I hated every moment of it. I'm sure, like anything else, if I keep going I'll get used to it -- but, will I go back? As of last night -- NO. But who knows, I just might try it one more time if Amber wants me to go with her. She liked it, and she did great! She was off her saddle (does that sound right?) and pumping to the music. I, on the other hand, sat the whole time. I tried to get up -- and felt like I was going to die. I got up one time for about 45 seconds (seemed like at least 10 minutes) but I sat right back down and turned down the tension on my bike. My bottom is real sore today. I'm sure I'll get used to that too. I only bought a gym membership for 3 months -- I'm into my 2nd month -- I might try to stick with this class for two months. I can say that now because I'm sitting down and resting. We'll see -- I couldn't sleep last night just thinking about the next class. The instructor did say we should get cycling shoes if we are thinking about staying with the class. Any suggestions Sam? I don't want to spend too much and it's only for spinning class right now. I'll let you know if I go back. I won't run before the next class if I do go.

First run in 3 weeks!

On Tuesday of this week I went on my first run after rolling my ankle. I didn't do too bad. I ran 2 1/2 miles, my ankle was a tiny bit sore afterward. I was pretty winded when I finished though. I'll have to work at it. I went to the gym after my run and worked out for about an hour. I did the bike, eliptical and stairs. It felt good to get back to working out. Weighed myself this morning and I've lost 3 lbs. I have about 8 more to go. On Saturday I'm going to start with a trainer -- I joined Biggest Loser at 24HR FITNESS. I joined mostly for the trainer. I get 5 sessions for $49 -- I thought that was a deal. They tried to sell me a training package for $328!

I'm not sure if I will be able to do the L A Marathon -- I'll just have to see how long it takes to get back in shape. This Sunday I was supposed to run a 15K (9.3 miles), but if 2.5 miles made me winded, I don't think I'm ready for a 15K. Right now my goals are set for the 1/2 marathon I'll be doing Superbowl weekend.

Injured

I know it's been a while since I've posted, so let me update everyone.

I WAS running each weekend until the fires. I didn't run one weekend because it was too windy. That's the day the fires started. The next weekend I didn't want to run outside because there was alot of ash in the air. I ran 15 miles at the gym. That was real hard and it took 3 days before my hip didn't hurt. The next weekend I forced myself to run because 15 miles didn't sound like fun. I surprised myself and found it to be pretty easy. I only ran 12 miles that day. I did 7.5 miles and then I rolled my ankle. I fell on my hands and knees, but I was up pretty fast because there were cars right next to me and I didn't want anyone to get out to see if I was okay. I ran another 4.5 miles on a bruised and swollen ankle before I called it quits. That day I spent all day applying RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation).
I was able to walk on it by the next day and it didn't feel too bad. Our group was doing a 10K run the following weekend (which was last weekend). I didn't plan on running it anyway so I've just taken the last two weeks off. My ankle feels pretty good now, but it still looks brused. I'll see how I feel this Sunday, I might go and see if I can run a couple of miles. I don't want to push to hard to soon, but I don't want to sit around because I won't be in shape for the 1/2 or full marathon. I'll just have to wait and see what Sunday brings.

On his way

Papa took Chuck to Fontana today. Well, I'm still training. (Sorry Sam the idea of falling harder and faster from a bike is enough to keep me on the ground ;) The last time I wrote I was at 10 mile long runs. Last Sunday I ran 13 miles. This coming Sunday I will do 14 miles. My 13 mile wasn't too hard. It took me 2 hrs and 13 minutes to finish. I'm pretty tired on Sundays, but I'm not in pain. I bought a new pair of shoes last weekend and that is making a big difference. Same kind of shoes, just NEW!

This coming Sunday we are going to Aunt Kathy's for a baby shower for Natalie! I can't wait. The only thing is I may be pretty tired. I think I'll just sit and eat all afternoon. I'll try to take pic's and post some, but...I don't know how to do it. We'll see.

10 Miles

Last Sunday I ran 10 miles with my group. Run was great! I tried to implement chi running and I felt really good. During the rest of the week I only ran once (2 mi) and worked on yoga and pilates. I don't like pilates. Today's run was 10 miles again. This time I didn't eat any carbs this morning, didn't really want to go, and didn't practice chi running. My hip flexors hurt, my knees hurt and my legs are really sore. I don't know if it was the venue (probably), but I wasn't too pleased with this concert. The concert starts at 7:30pm in San Diego (outside). Amber went with me and our seats were pretty good, not too far from the stage. Miranda Lambert was the opening act. She did pretty good, but I wasn't there for her. I was too excited about seeing Toby Keith perform so I couldn't wait until she was done. Well wait I did...Toby Keith's performance didn't start until 9:30pm. (I am usually asleep by this time. I knew I'd be up late, but I thought by 9:30 the concert would be almost over.) By the time he started almost everyone around us was wasted. We had a couple just in front of us that were drunk and all they did was dance. (Not the kind that I would want my young child to see.) When Toby finally came out guess what? He looked like he was wasted too! When he first started to sing I thought he sounded a little scratchy and off. He finally got into the swing of things, but it was pretty much the same concert I had seen 3-4 years ago. He did change some words on some of the songs, but not for the better. Then what next? We can smell pot! The drunk lady in front of us decided she needed her medicinal pot on top of all of her alcohol. Someone alerted security and she stopped. Needless to say I wasn't that impressed with this concert. We didn't stay for the encore, I wanted to get out before all the drunks hit the road. Will I go to another concert by him? Maybe in a different venue, and in a few years. Don't get me wrong I love Toby Keith's songs, I just don't think he was shining that night. We got home around 12:30. I was tired!

Back to Training

Now that I am done with the DL 1/2, I will continue my training with the running group I'm in. I didn't do much this past week, my legs were sore. Corey and I ran 1.2 miles on Friday just to loosen my legs up a bit.

Today I ran 9.2 miles with my group. Next Sunday will be 10 miles.

I am trying to learn a different way of running called Chi Running. It is supposed to help me to run without as much effort or injury. I hope I can get the hang of it. I listened to his tape during my run, it kept my mind off the long distance if nothing else. I could definately tell I used different muscles. I actually feel pretty good today. I'm tired, but that's because I wake up at 5am to do this.

On another note, Amber and I are going to a Toby Keith concert in San Diego tonight. I can't wait! Last year I had tickets to his concert but Corey broke his wrist that same morning. I still have last years tickets in my drawer. :( This year I strapped Corey to his bed and told him not to move! Boy was it hot!! I actually did better than I thought I would. When I was driving to Disneyland from our hotel the temp on the van was telling me it was already 81 degrees at 4:45a.m. It was humid and hot. We were under a red flag warning which advised anyone prone to heat exhaustion not to run. The next level was a black flag and if we reached that they wouldn't time anyone, it would just turn into a 13 1/2 mile fun run. Fortunately we didn't have to do that. I know of at least 3 people that needed medical help on the route. One was to a young girl, probably high school age. She went down at mile 11. Medical was helping her when I went by. That being said I took my time, poured water on myself at every water stop and made sure I drank and GU'd. Corey brought me cold water at mile 9 and I poured it on myself, that really helped. The Disneyland 1/2 Marathon. I have mixed feelings -- nervous and excited all at the same time. I know I've run this distance before, so I can do it. But, it doesn't help that the weather has been so hot and humid so early in the morning. I'll just take it as easy and hope I make it within the timeframe allowed. My knee's been hurting this week, but it actually feels really good today.

Today Corey and I are going to Disneyland to pick up my packet and listen to a couple of speakers. Then we are staying at a hotel to rest and use the jacuzzi and pool. I'll get up around 3:30 a.m. to get ready and be at Disneyland by 4:30a.m. The hotel is at mile 9 so Corey will be able to see me run (or limp) by.

I'll let everyone know how I do tomorrow night. I'll run a couple of low mileage days by Thursday and then I'll start carbo loading and tapering down. I'm getting nervous. I know I can run 13 miles, but I worry about whether I can make it in the timeframe they allow. My muscles start to tighten up around 10 miles.

I decided to get a hotel because I'm supposed to check in around 4:30 a.m. I can leave my hotel at 4:15 and still get there in plenty of time.

I'm still running!

I know I haven't written in awhile, but I'm still running. Last Sunday I did 10 miles -- I needed to do this to get me mentally ready for Disneyland. I ran too fast uphill, and my knee is bothering me. I've tried this week to just run 2-3 miles at a time.

Monday - Corey and I went to the gym. We did eliptical (10 min), bike (10 min) and treadmill (Corey 16 min, me 20 min). We also worked on lower body.

Wednesday - Gym - Eliptical (12 min), bike (12 min) and treadmill (20 min - 3 miles).
We worked on upper body this time.

My plan is to take it easy this next week. I have a 7 mile run on Sunday, but after that I'll do alot of resting (and carbing) and just run/walk a couple of miles in the early week.

I can't believe my 1/2 marathon is in less than 2 weeks. I received the paperwork this week, and they want us there at 4:00 a.m. for a 6:00 a.m. start. Haven't decided if I'm driving in the morning, or finding a hotel for Sunday night.

The Run From ...

I started reading a book called THE NON RUNNER'S MARATHON GUIDE FOR WOMEN or the GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND ON WITH YOUR TRAINING guide. The author Dawn Dais has a humorous way of telling you what you need and what to expect. I found the book refreshing since I am in the middle of training for my 1/2 marathon.

Anyway, while out on my run yesterday (which by the way, I didn't want to do in the first place), it seemed as if I was running an endless path of uphill battles. How can you go up hill so much with so few down hills. My legs hurt and I was sweating horribly (I don't usually sweat alot until after my run). After about 3 miles I was sooo tired that I wasn't really paying attention to my surroundings (a mistake when it's rush hour traffic in the evening). I was crossing a street when I realized I hadn't looked for cars and there was one waiting on me. Well, I thought, if I get hit at least I can stop running and be over with this training:) With that little bit of humor, I was able to finish my run. Sweating as if someone had poured water on me and aching to no end -- but -- finally -- DONE!. Putting a little bit of humor in with your pain can sometimes get you that last mile. My total mileage for that run was 3.83 miles in 41:17 minutes. Total mileage for the week so far is 16.45 miles.

I think what happened on that run was 1) wrong mental attitude when I started, 2) muscles still sore from previous days run and 3) I definately need a rest day in between when I run with my neighbor. He likes to run solid without walking breaks and that just about kills me. I'm resting today (Friday) and will run again Saturday to try and make 20 miles for the week.

Way to go Corey!

Well, I actually have Corey training with me! Hooray! Chuck hasn't gone out with me yet -- he's been pretty busy at work. Tuesday Corey and I ran to Wal Mart, Big 5 over to Home Depot and back home. He did 1:1 (1 min walk/1 min run) 8x and because we went so far we ended up doing this set twice. Our total mileage was 2.12. Great job Corey!

On Wednesday night I ran with my neighbor 4.25 miles. This is the first time I ran the whole distance (hills and all) without stopping. After we got back I stopped and picked up Corey for his training and we walked for 10 min. Corey's new shoes seem to make a big difference. He has more support in his arches so his knees don't hurt.

Weekend Runs

I did my long run this week on Saturday -- 8 miles. Got up at 5:45 am and was out the door by 6:30. I ran for 3/4 mile and walked 1 minute. This pace seems to work the best for me. I did 8 miles and Gu'd once at 4 miles. I was finished around 8 a.m. I didn't have any knee problems and I felt good all day.

Saturday night Corey and I went to the Harvest Crusade at Anaheim Stadium. We heard the bands Leeland and P.O.D. I liked Leeland the best. The stadium was full and it seemed that more than 1/2 the people went down to ask Jesus Christ into their lives. Hooray for them!

Sunday - I got up at 5:30 a.m. and got to my running group (Riverside Lopers) by 6:20. We ran 4 miles at an 11 minute pace. I ran a little faster on the way back. My pace was 10:06. Today I'm feeling a little tired and I can't seem to fill my stomach. I'm eating almost every 2 hours.

I took Chuck and Corey to Roadrunner Sports in Costa Mesa and got them both a pair of running shoes. Maybe I'll get some running partners! The store did a gait analysis on both of them and they are both overpronaters. Chuck got stability shoes and Corey had to get Motion Control. I hope this helps keep their injuries at bay. We'll see how it goes this week for them.

Finally -- I can post

I think I've figured it out! A change of scenery always makes running more pleasant.

My total miles for the week so far are 10.5 miles, not very good.
